The secret knowledge of paradise

Both in Genesis and in the Book of Enoch one notices that man on earth was not allowed to have knowledge.

In Genesis it is called “knowledge.” In the Book of Enoch, however, it is called “Secrets of the Ancient Times.”

Genesis

Genesis chapter 2

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You may freely eat of every tree of the garden;
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die."

The Tree of Knowledge must have been something very educational. It probably contained useful knowledge that Adam and Eve were not allowed to know.

Genesis chapter 3

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate.
7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.

Eve seemed to be curious and wanted to "know". She doesn't just cheekily take a fruit from the tree, but wants to know what's going on. In this day and age, we can only agree with her.

It is also important to know that Eve took the fruit of her own free will, without being tempted or provoked by anyone or anything else. Eve did it of her own free will.

But now the "realization" emerges. The realization of the

  • Privacy
  • Shame
  • Weaving clothes
  • and much more.

    The word "naked" could also have meant "ignorant" or "have-less". "Eat" could also be a mistranslation and perhaps it meant "take in".

    Now Adam and Eve can suddenly weave fig leaves together and make aprons. The tree of knowledge must therefore have been something very instructive that spread knowledge.

    The Book of Enoch

    Chapter 8, Book of Enoch

    In this chapter, people on earth are trained. For this reason, the fallen angels have fallen into disfavor. Because they spread "knowledge" on earth.

    Chapter 8 also lists the misdeeds of the fallen angels. Throughout the Book of Enoch, the translators do not seem to be in harmony with each other.

    1) And Azazel taught men to make swords and knives, shields and breastplates, and he showed them what was behind them ( r. the metals ) and their working, and bracelets and jewels, and the art of blackening the eyes and the beautifying of the eyebrows, and the most precious and exquisite stone and all kinds of color tinctures and the means of exchange of the world [ Azazel brought to the children of men, vanity, weapons and money ]. 1) Asasel taught the people how to make battle knives, weapons, shields and breastplates and showed them the metals and how to work them, the bracelets and jewelry, the use of eye make-up and how to beautify the eyelids, the most precious and exquisite stones and all kinds of dyes. 1) Moreover, Azaziel taught men to make swords and knives, shields, breastplates, the making of mirrors and the making of bracelets and jewelry, the use of makeup, the adornment of eyebrows, (the use of) stones of every precious and exquisite kind and of all kinds of color, so that the world was changed.
    2) And there was a great and general wickedness, and they went astray and were corrupt in all their ways. 2) So there was much wickedness, and they committed fornication, went astray and all their ways were corrupted. 2) Wickedness increased, fornication multiplied and they all sinned and corrupted their ways.
    3) Amiziras taught the summoners and root cutters [ the witches and droids ], 3) Semjasa taught the incantations and the cutting of the roots, 3) Amazarak taught all the wizards and root dividers;
    Armaros ( taught ) the solution to the incantations, Armaros the solution of incantations. Armers the solution of sorcery;
    Baraqiel ( taught ) the stargazers [ astrology ], Baraael the stargazing, Barkajal the observers of the stars;
    Kokabiel ( taught ) the signs [ the writing and the word ], Akibeel the signs,
    Kokabeel the astrology,
    Tamiel taught the interpretation of the stars [ the Zodiac or astronomy ] and Tamiel taught astronomy,
    Ezeqeel the science of clouds,
    Arakiel the signs of the earth,
    Samsaveel the signs of the sun,
    Asdariel the course of the moon. Seriel the signs of the moon. and Asaradel taught the movement of the moon.

    Hypotheses

    The fallen angels teach people on earth various things. Including weapon making.

    The angels teach people simple medicine made from herbs and even how to write. Astronomy and astrology were also included.

    It stands out that Azazel must have been quite a knowledgeable angel. For he not only taught weapon making but also the art of make-up and jewellery making.

    In Enoch, chapter 8, point 3, we realise that "incantations" must be the wrong translation. It should probably mean "making plans" or "analytical thinking" or even "organising".

    Now "the Lord" will be informed

    Chapter 9

  • 1 Then Michael, Uriel, Raphael and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw all the blood that had been shed on earth and all the injustice that had been done on earth.
  • 2 They said to one another, "Listen to the voice of their cry; the earth is crying out in desolation, so that it reaches the gates of heaven".
  • 3 Now the souls of men are crying out before you, the saints of heaven, saying: Bring our controversy before the Most High!"
  • ...
  • 6 You have seen what Azazel did, how he taught all unrighteousness on earth and revealed the mysteries of the Ancient of Days, which are prepared in heaven;
  • 7 Shemazah, to whom you gave authority to rule over his fellows, made (organised?) the arrangements.
  • 8 They went to the daughters of men on earth, slept with them and defiled themselves with the women and revealed all their sins to them.
  • Now follows the ethnic cleansing

    Chapter 10

  • 1 Then the Most High, the Great and Holy One, made himself heard and sent Azarialihor to the son of Lamech:
  • 2 "Go to Noah and tell him in my name: 'Hide yourself, and reveal to him the end that is coming, for the whole earth will perish, and a flood of water will come over the whole earth, and all that is in it will perish.
  • 3 Teach him that he may escape, and that his seed may be preserved for all generations."
  • 4 And again the Lord said to Raphael, "Bind Azazel hand and foot and throw him into the darkness, and open the wilderness that is in Dudael and throw him into it.
  • 5 And heap upon him rough and sharp stones, and cover him with darkness, and he shall dwell there for ever, and cover his face so that he shall not see the light.
  • 6 And on the great day of judgement he shall be thrown into the fiery furnace.
  • ...
  • 9 The Lord said to Gabriel, "Go against the bastards and the reprobates and against the sons of whoredoms, and destroy the sons of whoredoms and the sons of the watchmen among men, bring them out and set them against one another, that they may destroy themselves in battle, for long life is not appointed for them.
  • 10 Of all that they shall ask of you, it shall not be granted to their fathers, that they may hope to live forever, and that each of them may live five hundred years."
  • 11 The Lord said to Michael, "Go, do to Shemazzah and the others with him, bind those who have joined themselves to women to sin with them in all their uncleanness.
  • 12 When all their sons shall have slain one another, and they shall have seen the ruin of their favourites, bind them for seventy generations under the hills of the earth until the day of their judgment and their consummation, until judgment shall be executed for all eternity.
  • ...
  • 22 And the earth shall be clean from all corruption and from all sin, from all judgement and from all punishment, and never again will I bring the like upon it from generation to generation for ever and ever.

  • The primordial knowledge

    Chapter 16, Book of Enoch

    In chapter 16, sentence 3, it becomes clear that the fallen angels did not know all the secrets of primeval times. This means that an immense amount of knowledge must still have been available.

  • 1 Since the days of the slaughter, destruction and death of the giants, when the spirits went out of the soul of their flesh to wreak havoc without being judged.
  • 2 In this way they will wreak havoc until the day of the great final judgement, when the great (?) course of the world will be completed.
  • 3 And say to the watchmen who were formerly in heaven, who had sent you to pray for them: "You were in heaven, and although all the secrets had not yet been revealed to you, you knew a worthless secret and told it to women in your hearts; through this secret women and men do much evil on earth."

  • The human being as an ignoramus

    Chapters 8 and 9 of the Book of Enoch roughly correspond to the Tree of Knowledge of Genesis in the Bible/Thorah.

    In other words, people were not allowed to be taught. The Lord wanted naked ignoramuses on earth, not scholars.

    People were to serve and believe and deliver what they produced to the Lord.

    In the book of Moses, in the Bible/Thorah, it becomes clear how man had to serve. By order of the Lord, Moses had to wipe out entire cities and kill women and children. Moses had to deliver the captured metals to the Lord.

    Why, for God's sake, did the Lord need metals so urgently?

    It becomes clear that man was not allowed to know what God wanted to do with these metals.

    The ignorance

  • Why did the gods believe that it would be better to leave people in ignorance?
  • Were the gods not capable of guiding people on earth?
  • Educated people could certainly have collected even more materials. They could have gone further to help the gods.
